چکیده

We are near the end of our proof of the Impagliazzo-Widgerson result that every exponential time problem has a polynomial-time transformation to an equivalent exponential-time problem which is hard on average. To recap from last time: Suppose L is a language decidable in time 2O(n). Let Ln be the characteristic function of L on inputs of length n, Ln : {0, 1} n → {0, 1}. Choose an arbitrarily small constant γ > 0, a field F such that |F| = 2, and a set H ⊆ F with H = 2. We can define the polynomial p : F → F with degree(p) ≤ |H|m = 2γn+O(1), m = 1 γ , that agrees with Ln on H m ≈ {0, 1}. There exist absolute constants c and c′ such that if c is a circuit of size ≤ 2 that computes p, ie,

Adaptive Data Analysis

These lecture notes are based on [BNS+16] and were compiled for a guest lecture in the course CS229r “Information Theory in Computer Science” taught by Madhu Sudan at Harvard University in Spring 2016. Menu for today’s lecture: • Motivation • Model • Overfitting & comparison to non-adaptive data analysis • What can we do adaptively? • KL Divergence recap • Proof • Differential privacy (time per...

1 Recap: Interactive Proofs Definition 1.1. An interactive proof system with soundness error s ∈ [0, 1] for a language L ⊆ {0, 1} * is a pair of algorithms: a (possibly computationally unbounded) prover P , and a ppt verifier V , having the following properties: 1. Completeness (" the specified prover convinces the specified verifier of a true statement "): for all x ∈ L, out V [P (x) ↔ V (x)] ...

Lecture Notes on the Spectral Theorem

Sections 1 through 5 of these notes are from a series of lectures I gave in the summer of 1989. The object of these lectures was to give a reasonably self-contained proof of the Spectral Theorem for bounded normal operators on an infinite dimensional complex Hilbert space. They are aimed at second year graduate students who have at least had a bit of functional analysis. Since the talks, and in...

Recap and Definitions

This lecture covers the proof of the Bessy-Thomassé Theorem, formerly known as the Gallai Conjecture. Also, we discuss the cyclic stable set polytope, and show that it is totally dual integral (TDI) (see lecture 5 for more on TDI systems of inequalities). In this section we provide a brief recap of some definitions we saw in the previous lecture. Also we answer a question that remained unanswer...

Factors affecting students tendency of Univercity students to Lecture Notes

Introduction: Many studies detected factors contributing to the students’ tendency to lecture notes. This study aimed at evaluating the factors affecting students tendency to lecture notes in Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences. Methods: In this descriptive study, 179 students from medicine, nursing & midwifery, health, and Paramedicine schools were selected through stratified random...
